About The Book

This book is an in-depth analytical study of all the published novels of Kamla Markandaya. It critically evaluates almost all the elements of her artistic creation (novels). It provides a brief history of Indian English novels and makes it clear from the very outset, how they evolved despite unfair and indifferent native critical attitudes. The contribution of women novelists of the post-independence era further enriched it with their creative work of better craftsmanship. Kamla Markandaya, however, excelled in creating her niche among the top-ranked novelist of her day. Themes and techniques, character portrayals, language and style are all carefully woven and crafted into the structure of her novels. Her contribution to the fruition and flowering of Indian English novel is really great.
